Twenty-nine years ago today, November 19, 1969, AG Marriage Encounter coordinator and Vietnam veteran Bob Whelan's act of heroism and skill saved the lives of an estimated 200 U.S. soldiers. A remarkable number of families have autistic children -- currently it's the fastest growing developmental disability in the United States, with at least one in every 150 children now being diagnosed as autistic. Although autistic children look like other children, they may display serious behavior problems — to the point of institutionalizing them.
